Hungary has various features to be a destination for active tourism, however, the weight of this tourist product currently falls short of its potential. The recreational interest of the local population creates the demand that makes the development of the tourist infrastructure in this area worthwhile. This study seeks to answer whether a water that has not previously been used for tourist purposes has sufficient properties to become a major attraction in an area where tourists arrive in large numbers due to other attractions (mainly a spa). We evaluated the characteristics using a quantitative method, as a result of which the living water channel in the southeastern part of the country (most sections of which were formerly natural watercourses) can be compared with the suitability for water hiking of other rivers in Hungary.
