Marton, G., & Jónás-Berki, M. (2013). The position of active tourism in the Balaton area. Modern Geográfia, 8(1), 13–22.

Balaton is the leading waterside destination and at the same time the scene of major tourism developments in Hungarian tourism. In recent decades, in addition to the waterside holiday that can be connected to the lake – as the main tourist product – additional products have also undergone continuous development. Among these, the units related to active tourism not only rose to a spectacularly higher quality level, but their attractiveness also increased significantly. The purpose of the study is to present the main characteristics of the active tourism products of Lake Balaton and to position them, thereby determining their place and role in the tourist offer of the lake. It can be noted that the examined elements can be placed on a very wide scale, as a result of which their general parameters are also extremely differentiated, so the social and economic features of each active tourism (sub)product were used as general guidelines. From a methodological point of view, the study relies on both primary and secondary sources, from analyzes of individual tourism service providers, through field visits, to the processing of the databases of tourism certification organizations.
