In this study, we presented a new method of colour analysis—not previously used in geological research—to more efficiently detect cycles in sedimentary rocks. The practical applicability of the method was tested on the Boda Claystone Formation. In our experiment, we investigated the colour variations of scanned core samples over cycle length ranges where the human eye no longer performs well.
